What The 346-147 Does
A torque rod ties the axle housing to the frame or suspension hanger and holds pinion angle and axle position under load. It takes the twisting force the driveline and brakes put into the axle. When the rod or its bushings give up, the axle walks under acceleration and braking, and you feel it as a shudder or a wander at speed.
This one adjusts from 11-7/8" to 13-3/8" center to center. That range covers a spread of frame and hanger configurations, so one rod handles retrofits and minor geometry corrections that would otherwise need several fixed-length part numbers. You set length on the bench or on the truck, then lock it.
Construction is heat-treated ball studs with a powdered-metal gusher bearing and a Belleville preload washer. The Belleville keeps load on the bearing as the parts wear, so the joint stays tight instead of developing free play the first season. Heavy-gauge tubular body handles full driveline torque without bending.
Why These Numbers Cross
346-147 is listed against Automann and Dayton numbers UCF-2640-004, S7084, and E-3763 in a Fruehauf application. Those brands catalog the same physical rod under their own numbering — same adjustment range, same end configuration, same bushing and stud sizing. The number changes with who printed the box, not with what bolts to the hanger.
Torque rods interchange on three things: center-to-center length or adjustment range, end type, and the bushing or stud bore that mates to the bracket. Get those three right and the rod is the same part. A number that crosses on length alone but uses a different end will not go in, so check the ends before you assume.
Treat any cross-reference as a starting point, not a promise. Confirm fit by the number stamped or tagged on the rod coming off the trailer, or by VIN. If the old rod is unreadable, measure the installed center-to-center distance and the bore at both ends before you order.
Inspection And Install Checks
Check the rod with the trailer on the ground. Pry against each end and watch for movement between the stud and the housing. Any visible play, torn or missing bushing material, cracked weld at the tube, or a bent body means replace. A rod that has been dragged or curbed can look fine and still be out of true.
Before you pull the old rod, measure and write down the installed center-to-center length. Set the new rod to that dimension before the ends go in, then re-check axle alignment and pinion angle afterward. Torque the fasteners to the suspension manufacturer's spec and re-check after the first loaded run.
346-147 Cross-Reference & Interchange Numbers
These manufacturer and aftermarket numbers commonly cross-reference to 346-147. Use them to identify the part — then confirm the exact fit by VIN or the number stamped on your old unit before you order. An interchange is a starting point, not a fitment guarantee.

Frequently asked questions
Is 346-147 the same rod as UCF-2640-004 or S7084?
They are listed as interchange for the same adjustable torque rod in a Fruehauf application. The numbers are shown for identification only — we are not affiliated with those manufacturers. Verify by matching the number on the old rod or by VIN before ordering.
How do I know what length to set the adjustable rod to?
Measure the old rod center to center before removing it, with the trailer at normal ride height. Set the new rod to that dimension, install, then verify axle alignment. If the old rod was already wrong, use the suspension manufacturer's alignment spec instead of copying the failed part.
Can I replace just the bushing instead of the whole rod?
On some rods yes, but if the tube is bent, the weld is cracked, or the stud end has play, the whole rod goes. Bushing-only repair on a rod that has already lost its preload usually comes back. Inspect the body and both ends before deciding.
