Load Range G or H — read the ply rating

The two ratings on this page are 14PR Load Range G and 16PR Load Range H, and they are not interchangeable on a loaded truck. The ply rating is a legacy strength index, not a literal count of plies; Load Range H carries more air pressure and therefore more weight per tire than Load Range G. Match what came off the axle, or check the tire-and-loading data plate before you go down a range.

In this size we stock 16PR Load H across the Lexmont, Accelus, Royal Mega, Tomoro, Yokohama, Kumho and Michelin lines, and 14PR Load G on the Bridgestone M713 and M760, the Goodyear Marathon RSS and the Double Coin RLB400.

Tread depth is what you are paying for

On a drive tire the number to compare is original tread depth, because that is the mileage you bought. The depths carried in this size run from 18/32 on the Tomoro TMT20 trailer tire to 30/32 on the Double Coin RLB400 deep-lug drive — nearly double the rubber, at a different price. A shallow trailer rib is not a worse tire; it is a tire built for a position that does not put power to the ground.

Federal minimum tread depth is 4/32 of an inch on a steer axle and 2/32 on every other position (49 CFR 393.75). That is the out-of-service line, not a replacement target — pulling a steer at 4/32 leaves nothing for the inspection you have not had yet.
