This is a steer axle hub cap, not the wheel-end hub itself. Aluminum body, bolts up where your old cracked or dented cap used to sit, keeps grease in and road grime out. Freightliner ran this same cap across a stupid number of model years and axle combos because the hub flange pattern didn't change much - that's why one part number covers so much ground.
Freightliner's spread here is wide: 1988 through 2024 production. That doesn't mean every single truck in that window takes this cap without checking - different axle suppliers (Meritor, Dana, etc.) got mixed in over the decades, and some fleets spec'd different cap styles depending on the wheel-end package ordered.
Bottom line - it's a steer axle cover, aluminum construction, made to bolt on and hold grease. Nothing exotic about the part, but the fitment window is long enough that you need to double check before you order.
Why These Numbers Cross
Stemco built their STM-343-4024 to the same bolt pattern and bore diameter as the Freightliner 343-4024, which is why it crosses straight over - Stemco's a major wheel-end supplier and a lot of these caps get built to the same spec sheet regardless of who stamps their name on the box.
The other numbers - 1311, 1458-1612, 1511, 1612 - are older Freightliner or supplier part numbers that got superseded over the years as Freightliner consolidated their parts catalog. Same physical cap, different number stamped on it depending on when it left the plant or which distributor catalog you're pulling from.
What actually matters on a hub cap: bolt circle diameter, number of bolt holes, and overall cap depth (some steer axles need extra clearance for a longer spindle nose). It's not a spline or seal fitment like you'd worry about on a hub or bearing - it's strictly a bolt pattern and depth match. If your old cap bolted up clean and didn't rub anything, this one will too.
