What 82744212 Actually Is
This is the front step fairing panel at the LH / driver position, the molded skirt that closes off the area ahead of and around the cab step. It is ABS plastic, primed, so it goes on ready for paint to match the truck. One panel per box. Listed fitment covers Volvo VNL 300, 400, 740, 760 and 860, plus VNR 640 Gen 3, 2018-2025.
This version is the one with the DEF hole. That matters. The same step area on a different build may use a solid panel with no cutout, and the two are not interchangeable without cutting. Look at the panel coming off the truck before you order and confirm whether the DEF fill opening is present.
Measured length is 68 inches, width 36 inches. Lay a tape on the old panel and compare before you commit. These are large molded pieces and a mismatch is obvious once it is in your hands, so it is cheaper to check first than to ship a panel back.
Why These Numbers Cross
82744212 is the number you will find on a dealer invoice or in the parts book for this driver side step fairing. VL-1401-L is the aftermarket cross-reference for the same panel. They cross because they describe the same molded part at the same position, with the same mounting pattern and the same DEF cutout, not because the molds or the tooling are shared.
Reading the suffix helps. The L in VL-1401-L marks the left hand, driver side. There is a right hand mirror of this panel in the same family, and the two are not the same part. If you are ordering a pair, you are ordering two different numbers, not two of one.
Numbers from other manufacturers are listed here for identification only. PartStop is an aftermarket supplier and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or authorised by Volvo. The cross-reference is a starting point for identifying the right panel. Final fitment is confirmed by VIN or by the number stamped on the part you are pulling off.
Checks Before You Order
Pull the old panel part way and look for a molded or stamped number on the back face, usually near a mounting boss. Road grime hides it. Wipe it down. That number, read against your VIN, is the only reliable confirmation. If you cannot find it, photograph the panel and the mounting points and send them with the VIN.
These panels fail from the bottom up. Stone chips open into cracks, then vibration walks the crack toward a mounting hole and the fastener tears out. Check the mounting tabs and brackets on the truck while the panel is off. A bent bracket will stress a new panel the same way it killed the old one. Straighten or replace it first.

Frequently asked questions
Is VL-1401-L the same panel as 82744212?
VL-1401-L is the aftermarket cross-reference for the panel that 82744212 covers, same LH driver position and same DEF cutout. It is a direct replacement built to land on the factory mounting points. Confirm by VIN or by the number on the panel you are removing before you order.
Does this panel come painted?
No. It is ABS plastic supplied primed, so it needs paint to match your cab. Plan the body shop time into the job. Primed stock also means you are not fighting a factory color that no longer matches a sun-faded truck.
Will the left side panel work on the right side?
No. The L in the number means left hand, driver side. The right side panel is a separate mirrored part with a different mounting pattern. If you are replacing both sides, order the left and the right separately.
