What This Trim Actually Does
The step pedal trim is the finish panel that caps the step opening in the side fairing. It covers the raw fairing edge, keeps the step area looking finished, and takes the scuff every time a driver plants a boot on the way into the cab. It is a body and exterior part, not structural, but it is the piece everyone sees at a DOT lot or a customer yard.
This is the right-hand piece. On the Cascadia the left and right step pedal trims are not the same part and they do not swap side to side. The mounting hole pattern and the profile are mirrored to follow the fairing contour. If you order by eye off a photo, you will end up with a panel that sits proud on one corner and will not pull down flush.
Failures are simple and predictable. UV exposure chalks and fades the surface, then the plastic goes brittle and cracks around the fastener bosses. Road spray and washout pressure finish the job. Once one mounting tab breaks, the panel flexes on every step and the remaining tabs let go in short order. Wind noise and a rattling panel at highway speed are the usual first complaint.

You will see this trim listed two ways: as A22-68682 and as A22-68682-001. The base number identifies the trim itself. The dash suffix is the specific revision or finish level released against that base, which is how Freightliner tracks minor changes to the same physical panel over a production run. Both refer to the same right-hand step pedal trim for the side fairing.

Check Before You Order
Pull the old trim first if it is still on the truck. Most of these carry a moulded number on the back face, usually near a mounting boss. Wipe the grime off and read it. If the panel is already gone, check the other side of the truck for the matching left-hand piece and work back from there, remembering the two sides are different parts.
Look at the fairing itself while the trim is off. If the trim broke because the fairing mounting bosses are cracked or elongated, a new panel will fail the same way. Check that the step assembly behind it is tight and that nothing is contacting the back of the trim. A step that has shifted will push the panel out and split it again.
