Volvo D13 Parts

The Volvo D13 is the 12.8L backbone of the VNL, VNR, and VHD lineup, and it shares more parts than most guys realize with the Mack MP8 – same block architecture, lot of the same wear items. We stock the aftermarket service parts that keep these running: water pumps, CAC hoses, thermostats, filters, cross-referenced to the Volvo and Mack numbers, sitting on the shelf here in Tacoma for same-day pickup or ship-out.

What Wears Out on a D13

The D13's cooling system takes a beating from EGR heat and the charge-air routing. Water pumps – both the fixed and variable-speed versions like the 24152057 – are common failure points around 300-400k miles, usually announcing themselves with a coolant weep or bearing noise before they let go.

Charge-air hoses and hump hoses crack or blow off at the clamps, especially around the BMPS bracket kit setup (20550690). Thermostats stick more often than they should on this platform – if you're chasing an overheat or a truck that won't get to temp, check that before you start throwing parts at it.

Round it out with air filters, coolant hoses by the stick, and the usual gasket and sensor wear – none of it exotic, all of it stuff that fails on a schedule if you run enough miles.

Matching the Right Part

D13 and MP8 share enough architecture that a lot of parts cross over, but the engine serial number and the number stamped on your old part are what actually confirm fit – not the truck's VIN alone, and not 'it's a D13 so it'll work.' Pull the old water pump or hose and read the casting or sticker before you order.

Water pumps split into fixed-speed and variable-speed – they are not interchangeable, and putting the wrong one on will either not bolt up or won't control temp right. CAC and coolant hoses are sized by ID and length – measure the stick, don't eyeball it, a half inch off either way and you're cutting or it won't reach.

Sensors matter on thread pitch and connector, not just function – a coolant temp sensor that reads right but has the wrong thread will strip the boss. When in doubt, bring the old part to the counter or call in the number off it.

Why Grab It From Us

Dealer price on a D13 water pump or CAC hose kit is going to sting, and the wait on a special-order Volvo part can park a truck for days. Our aftermarket direct-replacement parts cross-reference to the OE numbers and come in at a fraction of dealer cost, usually same-day out of Tacoma.

Every part we sell carries a 6+ month warranty – no fine print games, if it fails in that window we make it right.

We've been doing this counter a long time and we've seen what fails and why. Call with your engine serial or the number off the old part and we'll get you the right one the first time, not the third.

Frequently asked questions

Will this water pump fit my VNL with the D13?

Probably, but confirm it against your engine serial or the number on the old pump before you order – D13s split between fixed and variable-speed pumps, and they're not interchangeable. Give us the number and we'll match it.

Is the aftermarket CAC hose as good as the dealer hose?

For fit and function, yes – it's silicone, multi-ply, built to the same ID and pressure spec. It won't have the Volvo part stamped on the side, but it'll seal, hold boost, and cost a lot less. We stand behind it with a 6+ month warranty.

How do I know if I need the variable-speed or fixed water pump?

Check the old pump's part number or casting mark – 24152057 is the variable-speed, 24152058 is fixed. If the number's worn off, the engine serial will tell us which your truck was built with.

Do you carry parts for the Mack MP8 too, since it's the same engine?

Yes – a lot of our D13 cooling and fuel system parts cross straight over to the MP8 since they share the block. Same rule applies: match by the number on the old part, not just the engine name.

Not sure which one your engine takes?

Run your VIN and we’ll match parts to your exact truck and engine serial, or call the counter — a person who knows these engines verifies fitment by the number on your old unit before the order ships. No wrong-box returns.
