This is a gear-driven water pump, not belt-driven, so it's bolted into the front timing case and runs off the same gear train as your cam and injectors. Common on DD13 and DD15 engines in Freightliner Cascadia and Western Star trucks from roughly 2012-2020.
It moves coolant through the block, oil cooler, and radiator circuit. When these fail it's usually the shaft seal or bearing going, and you'll see coolant weeping out the weep hole on the bottom of the housing before it gets bad enough to lose pressure.
Because it's gear-driven and mounts internally, this isn't a five-minute swap like a serpentine-belt pump. Timing cover comes off, so plan the labor accordingly and replace your gaskets while you're in there.
