Diagnose what actually failed
Hoods rarely die all at once. The usual suspects are specific: hinge and pivot brackets crack from slamming, mirror and grab-handle mounts pull through the fiberglass, headlight panels spider from stone hits, and fairing sections crack where road debris and curbs find them. Open the hood and trace the crack to its origin — if the structural shell is intact and the damage lives in one panel or bracket, you're shopping for a part, not a hood.
One caution: a crack at the hinge area that keeps coming back usually means worn hood springs or a misadjusted latch making the hood flex and slam. Replace the cause with the panel or you'll do this twice.
Ordering fiberglass and hardware that fits
Hood parts are generation-specific and often side-specific — a left headlight panel won't mirror onto the right. The OEM number molded into the back of most panels is the fastest match; our listings cross-reference it. No number? Your VIN plus a photo of the damaged piece to the counter gets a verified answer before you spend anything.
Fiberglass ships gel-coat finish, ready for prep and paint — nobody's aftermarket (or dealer) panel arrives color-matched. Budget the body shop's paint time into the repair; it's still a fraction of a complete hood.
Make the repair last
Fit the panel loosely first and check every gap before final torque — fiberglass drills and shims easily, but only before it's bolted tight. Use large washers or the factory backing plates on every fastener; point-loading fiberglass is how new cracks start. And replace tired hood springs while the hood is apart: they're cheap, and a properly balanced hood is the single best protection for every panel on it.

Frequently asked questions
Can I replace just one section of the hood?
Often yes — panels, brackets and fairing sections are sold separately for exactly this reason. If the structural shell itself is cracked through, be honest about it: send us photos and we'll tell you straight whether a panel repair holds or the hood is done.
Do hood panels come pre-painted?
No — fiberglass arrives in gel-coat, ready for paint. Any body shop can match your color code from the door tag. Factor paint into the budget; the total still beats a complete hood by a wide margin.
Why does my hood crack at the same spot repeatedly?
Repeat cracks mean a live cause: weak hood springs letting it slam, a latch pulling unevenly, or a missing rubber bumper letting it rock at speed. Fix the cause when you fit the new part or the crack returns.
How do big fiberglass parts ship without damage?
Crated freight — we'd rather pay for wood than ship you a cracked panel. Typical transit is 3–7 business days; Pacific Northwest customers can pick up at our Tacoma warehouse and skip the crate.
Not sure it fits? We check before you pay.
Run your VIN and we’ll match parts to your exact truck, or call the counter — a person who knows trucks verifies fitment by OEM number before the order ships.
