Far as fitment goes, this shoe size is basically an industry standard casting, not brand-locked to one axle maker. That's why you'll see it under Meritor, Webb, Euclid and other axle housings — the shoe itself doesn't care whose name is on the axle tag as long as the drum size and cam setup match.
Reading the Cross Numbers
The reason 4709, 4709E, and 4709E2 all show up together is lining spec and revision, not a different shoe casting. Same for the Alliance numbers (MB4709E2, MK4709E2) — Alliance rebrands a lot of these castings under their own line but the shoe dimensions and mounting holes are the same 16.5x7 pattern.
What actually varies enough to bite you: cam roller size, anchor pin diameter, and whether your application uses standard or wide-flange hardware. None of that shows up in the shoe number itself — it's on the hardware kit, not the shoe. So don't assume because the shoe number matches, you're done — check your S-cam and rollers separately.
