What This Kit Covers
A kingpin kit is what you need when your steering axle knuckle gets sloppy or starts eating tires unevenly. It's the pin itself plus bushings, seals, thrust bearings, and usually the wedge or lock — basically everything to rebuild the knuckle pivot on one side. R201315 is the number Peterbilt uses on the parts fiche, but it's a component-level part, not something unique to a body style.
This kit is built for Peterbilt heavy-duty tractors and straight trucks from 1988 up through current production. That's a long run, and Pete didn't change the knuckle geometry much across those years, which is why one kit covers so much ground. Doesn't mean every axle is identical — some spec'd different pin diameters or bushing lengths depending on axle rating.
If you're rebuilding a front end, plan on doing both sides even if only one is making noise. Uneven wear on one kingpin usually means the other side isn't far behind, and you're already in there with the axle apart.
Why These Numbers Cross
K961L, 460.246B, 1300, and 577684C91 all land on the same physical kit as R201315. Some of that's International/Navistar sourcing crossover (577684C91 is IH's part number for a kit that fits the same knuckle design), some of it's just different catalog systems from different suppliers stamping their own number on identical hardware.
Where it gets sideways is bushing bore diameter and pin length — small variances between build years or axle suppliers (Rockwell vs Eaton-designed knuckles) that got installed on Pete chassis. A kit that's dimensionally close but not exact will still bolt in and feel fine for a while, then wear fast or leak seals early.
Don't go by year or model alone. Pull the old kingpin and measure it, or better, read the number stamped on the knuckle or axle tag and match it against what you're ordering. That's the only way to know for sure before you've got parts spread across the shop floor.
